K is for the “Kidney Bag” also known as the “Bum Bag”

Am I the only person to know them by that name? Strange. Kidney Bags are called so (in my mind) because they sit on your belly around the area where your kidney is (makes sense!). And my theory is that they are due for a revival as I have seen new designs of this old classic pop up all over the place.

Luckily these have progressed considerably since the old days, when neon horror bum bags made us look at places we never had wanted to know about! Now even Louis Vuitton has created some bumbags – although they are not the nicest in my opinion! There is nothing really exciting out there at the moment in bum bag fashion design – or if you know of something, please e-mail me!

Here are some ok bum bags I have found on the internet:

Bum bags

I remember these bags from when I was younger and I still have not quite forgiven my mum for making me wear one! She used to say: "It's so much safer than a rucksack or handbag!" Despite neon colours coming back in fashion, they have not brought the bum bag along with them – the bum bags are riding a different wave. Which is the “I like to have my hand free”-wave.

Imagine: Kate Moss (or you) at a festival: Cowboy hat in one hand, beer in the other – how much easier to balance if you have no bag hanging of your shoulder. Another example: Sienna Miller (or you) in a nightclub. Dancing away – no dancing around the handbag or placing it in a corner – thinking naively: “I will keep an eye on it”. See where I am coming from? With the bum bag you will always know where your wallet is – and your phone. No more missed calls!

Plus, you know what? Bum bags are safer…
